Rot Dot
privacy policy
Effective Date: February 9, 2026
1. Introduction
Rot Dot ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Rot Dot mobile application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.
TL;DR: We don't collect your data. Everything stays on your device.
2. Information We Collect
We collect:
- Dot Configurations: The dots you create, including names, emojis, and associated NFC tag identifiers—stored locally on your device
- App Selections: Which apps you choose to block for each dot—stored locally on your device
- Usage Statistics: Tap counts and timestamps for your dots—stored locally on your device
- Subscription Status: Whether you have a free or Premium subscription (managed by Apple)
We do NOT collect: your name, email address, location, contacts, browsing history, the specific apps you block, or any other personal information. We have no servers, no accounts, and no way to access your data.
3. How We Use Your Information
Since all data is stored locally on your device, we don't "use" your information at all. The app uses your local data to:
- Display your dots and their configurations
- Block the apps you've selected when you scan a dot
- Track which dots you've tapped (locally, for your reference)
- Enforce free tier limits (2 dots)
We do NOT sell, rent, trade, or transmit your personal information because we never have access to it.
4. Data Storage & Security
- Local Storage: All data is stored locally on your device using iOS secure storage (SwiftData/Core Data)
- No Cloud: We do not operate servers. Your data never leaves your device.
- No Accounts: There are no user accounts, logins, or profiles to create.
- iCloud Backup: Your data may be included in your iPhone's iCloud backup if you have that enabled
- Device Security: Your data is protected by your device's passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID
5. Third-Party Services
- Apple FamilyControls: We use Apple's FamilyControls framework (Screen Time API) to block apps. This framework processes your app selections locally on your device. Apple does not receive information about which apps you block.
- Apple App Store: Payment processing and subscription management via Apple. See Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/privacy
We do not use any analytics services, advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking tools.
6. Data Retention
- Local Data: Stored until you delete individual dots or uninstall the app
- Delete anytime: Swipe to delete individual dots, or uninstall the app to remove all data
- We retain nothing: Since we never receive your data, there's nothing for us to retain or delete
7. Your Privacy Rights
General Rights: Access, Deletion, Export
CCPA (California): We don't sell data. We don't even collect it.
GDPR (EU/EEA): You have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection.
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over your data at all times. There's no need to contact us to delete your data—just delete the dots in the app or uninstall it.
8. Children's Privacy
Rot Dot is not intended for users under 13 years of age (or 16 in EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect data from children—in fact, we don't collect data from anyone. If you believe a child is using our Service inappropriately, please contact us at inquiry@hatchingpoint.com.
9. Permissions We Request
Rot Dot requests the following permissions:
- Screen Time (FamilyControls): Required to block apps. Without this permission, the app cannot function.
- NFC: Required to read NFC tags when you scan your dots.
You can revoke these permissions anytime in iOS Settings, but the app will not function without them.
10. Changes to Policy
Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
