1. Introduction
Record+Transcribe ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Record+Transcribe mobile application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect:
- Voice Recordings: Audio recordings you create, stored locally on your device
- Transcripts: Text transcriptions generated via Apple's speech recognition
- AI Summaries: Summaries generated from your transcripts via OpenAI
- Usage Data: App interaction data, recording durations, timestamps
- Subscription Status: Whether you have a free or Pro subscription (managed by Apple)
We do NOT collect: your name, email address, precise location, contacts, browsing history, or data from other apps.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide real-time transcription services
- Generate AI-powered summaries of your recordings
- Create smart titles for your conversations
- Track your monthly usage (for free tier limits)
- Process subscriptions (via Apple)
- Improve app performance and user experience
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information or recordings.
4. Data Storage & Security
- Local Storage: All recordings and transcripts are stored locally on your device using iOS secure storage (Core Data)
- iCloud Backup: Your data may sync if you have iCloud backup enabled for the app
- No Server Storage: We do not operate servers that store your recordings or transcripts. Your data stays on your device.
- Security: Industry-standard encryption for data in transit when communicating with third-party services
5. Third-Party Services
- Apple Speech Recognition: Your audio is processed by Apple's Speech framework for transcription. This may use on-device processing or Apple's servers depending on your device and settings. See Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/privacy
- OpenAI: Text transcripts (NOT audio recordings) are sent to OpenAI's API to generate AI summaries and smart titles. We use OpenAI's API with data opt-out, meaning your data is not used to train their models. OpenAI may retain data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. See their policy at openai.com/privacy
- Apple App Store: Payment processing and subscription management via Apple
We may disclose information if required by law.
6. International Data Transfers
When you use AI summaries, your transcript text may be transferred to the United States (where OpenAI operates). By using the Service, you consent to such transfers.
7. Data Retention
- Local Data: Stored until you delete individual recordings or uninstall the app
- Usage Tracking: Monthly usage resets automatically each calendar month
- Third-Party: Subject to OpenAI's and Apple's retention policies
- Delete anytime: Swipe to delete individual recordings, or uninstall the app to remove all data
8. Your Privacy Rights
General Rights: Access, Deletion, Export, Correction
CCPA (California): We don't sell data. You have the right to know what data we collect and to delete your data.
GDPR (EU/EEA): You have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection.
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over your data at all times.
9. Children's Privacy
Record+Transcribe is not intended for users under 13 years of age (or 16 in EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used our Service, please contact us at inquiry@hatchingpoint.com.
10. Microphone & Speech Recognition Permissions
Record+Transcribe requires:
- Microphone Access: To record audio for transcription
- Speech Recognition: To convert your speech to text
You can revoke these permissions anytime in iOS Settings, but the app will not function without them.
11. Changes to Policy
Updates will be posted on this website with a new effective date. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
